Mission: Hester Street Collaborative's (HSC) mission is to empower residents of underserved communities by providing them with the tools and resources necessary to have a direct impact on shaping their built environment. We do this through a hands-on approach that combines design, education, and advocacy. HSC seeks to create more equitable, sustainable, and vibrant neighborhoods where community voices lead the way in improving their environment and neglected public spaces.
About: At Hester Street Collaborative (HSC), we are architects, urban planners, designers, developers and community organizers. We provide planning, design and real estate development technical assistance and capacity building services to community-based organizations, governments and private firms throughout New York City and the U.S.
Founded in 2002, our mission is to provide the tools, information and inspiration underserved communities most need to participate meaningfully in the shape of their built environment. We develop inclusive, innovative, hands-on community engagement that develops skills, builds power and strengthens communities. The result is concrete resources that maximize community benefit.
Our goal is the planning, design and development of equitable, sustainable and resilient places, shaped by the people that live, work and play in them.
